On Saturday,  April 28th McKelvy cosponsored an event with the Mind, Body, Spirit  Special Interest House. The event was held at the Experimental Printmaking Institute(EPI) at the college on 201 Hamilton St. just outside Kirby Gym. The event brought students closer to art facilities at the college that otherwise go unnoticed. While at EPI for the event students learned about silk screen printing and book binding from MaryAnn Miller, an artist in residence at Lafayette. The students printed a design for the covers of their books that had a mother’s day theme. The cover was designed by Christa Martinez. It included a drawing of a lilac and the  name for mother in different languages to celebrate the diversity of culture that EPI strongly supports. After the printmaking and hand sewn book binding students had a handmade gift they could give to their mother’s for mother’s day without the stress of having to do something last minute! Many of the students that participated thought it was a relaxing process.

A barbecue was held outside in the backyard of the McKelvy House with many of the participating students and some of the EPI staff. The day held up beautifully to show off the great McKelvy backyard! Overall, the event was successful and fun thanks to those who participated. Hopefully this event can be a yearly thing!
