Our joint trip with Physics Club and McKelvy members to Sunfish Pond in the Delaware Water Gap was a much needed break from thinking and stress. Even though we only jumped one state over to New Jersey, it felt like we were hundreds of miles away in the forest along the Appalachian Trail. I’ll admit, my navigational skills aren’t the best so we had an adventure getting to the trail head and back to campus. On the way up to the pond, we crossed Dunfield Creek about a dozen times; out of the five nimble-footed physicists, not one fell in…shocking. When we finally reached the pond, we hunted around for “prime real estate” for our lunch break, even meeting a black garter snake near the shore protecting his own territory. We didn’t have the view all to ourselves, but the air was clean and the dancing ripples on the lake were mesmerizing. Thank you Wegmans for providing lunch–it tastes even better after 4 miles of hiking over rocky terrain. The hardest part of the hike was heading back to reality, trading the sounds of rustling trees and warm sun rays for the noise of semi trucks and a stuffy car. Good thing summer is just around the corner–I’m just about ready to become a bum in the forest.
